Man City Youngster Claudio Echeverri joins Bayer Leverkusen on loan

Manchester City’s highly-rated Argentine attacker Claudio Echeverri, aged 19, has completed a season-long loan move to Bayer Leverkusen, confirmed today. The arrangement is a straight loan deal for the 2025–26 campaign, with no obligation to buy.

From River Plate to Manchester

Echeverri joined Manchester City from River Plate in January 2024, though he remained on loan at his boyhood club until early 2025. During his time with River, he made more than 48 senior appearances and quickly rose to prominence as one of Argentina’s brightest young talents.

Early City Impact

After arriving in Manchester, Echeverri was slowly integrated into the squad. He made his debut toward the end of the domestic season, appearing in the FA Cup final. He followed that up with a Premier League cameo and scored his first goal for City in their 6–0 Club World Cup win over Al-Ain. These early flashes of quality highlighted why City invested in his potential.

International Pedigree

Beyond club football, Echeverri has already represented Argentina at various youth levels, including the U-17, U-20, and U-23 squads. His technical skill, creativity, and vision have earned him comparisons with some of the country’s most iconic playmakers, further fuelling expectations for his future.

Leverkusen’s Opportunity

The move to Leverkusen gives Echeverri the chance to gain valuable first-team minutes in the competitive Bundesliga. It also comes at a key moment for the German side, who are adjusting to the departures of manager Xabi Alonso and star midfielder Florian Wirtz. Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes praised Echeverri’s creativity, saying his flair would bring new dimensions to their attack.
